The context before Allsolve Agent

Building advanced 3D simulation models by hand is demanding work. It requires the geometry to be constructed and parameterized carefully, the right physics assigned, and materials oriented correctly, all before any result comes out. For engineers who typically start from an imported CAD file rather than building parametric geometry directly, taking on a complex 3D setup from scratch is a substantial undertaking.

KROHNE wanted to see how far an AI assistant embedded in the simulation environment could take that work, and whether it could be trusted with it.

Putting the Agent to the test

Jack Massaad, a Senior Development Engineer at KROHNE, approached Allsolve Agent the way he approaches any new AI tool: as a skeptic. His method is to assume the tool will fail, give it the simplest possible task first, then increase complexity by small steps until it breaks, so he learns exactly where the limits are before trusting it with anything real.

Working this way, he used the Agent to build a complex parametric 3D model of an ultrasonic flow metering setup. Three things stood out.

  1. It says what it will do before it does it. Rather than acting silently, the Agent describes each operation it is about to perform and waits for the user to accept or reject it. For engineers wary of letting an AI near a carefully built model, that approval step directly answers the concern that the tool might change something without them noticing.

  2. It understood the physics, not just the command. When Jack needed to set the polarization direction of the piezoelectric elements, he described the orientation the way he thinks about it, as an angle relative to one axis. The Agent recognized that Allsolve's convention defines that orientation as a rotation about a different axis, explained the distinction, and applied it correctly. It gave him more than he asked for, and the extra explanation was exactly what he needed.

  3. It handled genuinely complex parametric geometry. The model was not a simple shape. It combined multiple parameterized components and orientations that would be very time-consuming to build by hand. The Agent accelerated that work substantially.

I really liked that it told me what it was going to do before doing it, and let me accept or reject each step.

The result: a week instead of a month

The clearest outcome was speed. The model that took less than a week to build with the Agent would, by Jack's estimate, have taken several weeks to a month by hand, given the 3D complexity involved.

The capabilities that matter

Beyond speed, the value of Allsolve for this work lies in the physics it can handle. Two capabilities stand out for this kind of application: the ability to add flow speed on top of an acoustic medium, and the ability to compute displacements in acoustic media. These let the team model the behavior that matters for ultrasonic flow metering directly.
